The Unicorn is Unimpressed

Metallic paint

I used a bronze paint for the background, over newspaper glued to the canvas. I wanted to make the painting background slightly reflective in the sun, so it seemed to shimmer to contrast with the solid acrylic paint along with the mane, in gold.

Papier Mache

The unicorn’s horn is made from newspaper using a papier mache glue and flour mixture. It’s purposefully longer than the canvas boundaries to bring more depth to the painting.

Rainbow/black unicorn

I was looking to make this painting a juxtaposition of two different ideas. So rather than have a pure white unicorn, a black unicorn on a rainbow to indicate something slightly darker in what should be a positive idea.
