Carousel horse

I was trying to convey a feeling being unable to escape a dark situation in this painting. The carousel horse is stuck in the same position, but still alive. Meanwhile it is vulnerable and exposed from a cut away in its middle section.

Mixed media

Newspaper was used for the background to add variety and also emphasise the black and white colour scheme, allowing the gold of the pole and red of the insides to attract the eye.

Heavy lines

I used heavy black lines to define the outside of the horse, pole and create divides between elements. I felt this contributed to the dark feeling of the painting.
